چکیده
Rare earth elements (REE) are classified as critical raw materials and the environmental impact of mining them is growing concern. The recovery REE from electronic waste (e-waste) could offer a more sustainable practice. Waste printed circuit boards (WPCBs) an important resource in e-waste stream due to their content valuable materials. However, data regarding concentration distribution WPCBs very limited. aims this research were: (a) analyse chemical composition comminuted prior processing (industrially pre-treated) with emphasis on REE, (b) determine other metals different size fractions pre-treated WPCBs. samples were supplied by commercial recycling companies, which makes representative industry UK. Correlation between elemental concentrations particle was analysed using Spearman’s rank correlation. Most inversely correlated size. Concentrations Y, La Gd found up thousand times higher smaller compared coarser particles. most base including Cu, Sn, Pb Zn did not show trend. present study highlights occurrence WPCBs, fine potential sources these elements, currently recovered during process. A cost-effective sieving step proposed enrich for further recovery, prevent possible loss maximize total material

Recovery of metals from waste printed circuit boards by supercritical water pre-treatment combined with acid leaching process.
Waste printed circuit boards (PCBs) contain a large number of metals such as Cu, Sn, Pb, Cd, Cr, Zn, and Mn. In this work, an efficient and environmentally friendly process for metals recovery from waste PCBs by supercritical water (SCW) pre-treatment combined with acid leaching was developed. In the proposed process, waste PCBs were pre-treated by SCW, then the separated solid phase product wi...
متن کاملEnergy Recovery from Waste of Printed Circuit Boards in Plasmatron Plasma Reactor
This paper presents results of research on the use of plasma technology for printed circuit boards (PCB) processing for metals and energy recovery. In the Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements, a test stand was built allowing experiments on plasma process with throughput of 800 kg per day. Brief examination of PCB waste was carried out, focusing on identification of its ...
متن کاملLeaching studies for metals recovery from printed circuit boards scrap
In this paper, the leaching behavior of the major metals present in printed circuit boards waste is evaluated, aiming at its recycling by hydrometallurgy. Several leachants were compared (sulfuric, hydrochloric and nitric acids, at 2 M H concentration), at temperatures of 25oC and 90oC and 4 hours of reaction time. Sulfuric acid leaching was not very promising concerning metals dissolution bein...
متن کاملRecovery of high purity precious metals from printed circuit boards.
Waste printed circuit boards (WPCB) have an inherent value because of the precious metal content. For an effective recycling of WPCB, it is essential to recover the precious metals. This paper reports a promising method to recover the precious metals. Aqua regia was used as a leachant and the ratio between metals and leachant was fixed at 1/20 (g/ml). Silver is relatively stable so the amount o...
متن کاملCharacterization of Printed Circuit Boards for Metal and Energy Recovery after Milling and Mechanical Separation
The proper disposal of electrical and electronic waste is currently a concern of researchers and environmental managers not only because of the large volume of such waste generated, but also because of the heavy metals and toxic substances it contains. This study analyzed printed circuit boards (PCBs) from discarded computers to determine their metal content and characterized them as solid wast...
